Healthy home features

Low VOC finishes throughout: Tongue oil finish to spotted gum. Beeswax finish to polished concrete floors. Water based chemical free paints and solvents for all painted surfaces. Minimal use of plastic materials.

Proprietary technology used to protect occupants from electro magnetic radiation while they sleep. Sleep better. Healthy for your body to be unplugged each night.

Excellent natural ventilation pathways in the home. Shug windows and the ‘chimney stack’ effect allow the home to have a natural air circulation route. From basement to the first floor. This allows the home owner to passively control the temperature of the home:

Bedrooms located on ground floor for more stable temperature and protected from direct sun.

Designed to incorporate Active low energy temperature control measures: security door in basement and stack effect high efficiency fan system on the first floor is used to increase the flow of cool air from the basement to the living areas.

Highest efficiency ceiling fan units installed in each room of the house. To push heat down in the winter months, and to circulate air in the summer.

Three high efficiency inverter ducted heat/cooling units. Provide additional zoned climate control.

Natural material pallets employed to soothe and relax occupants after stressful demanding workdays.

Commercial grade curtain wall window system. Double glazed. Thermally broken. Argon filled. So you can let the outside in but maintain your indoor air temperature. Flooding the home with light, so you can use less artificial lighting day to day.

Thermal mass: concrete floors and stone paving provides a heat bank in winter months, slowly releasing the suns heat into the building throughout the day. In summer the thermal mass sttablisises the building temperature and acts a s a reservoir of cool mass to help keep temperatures down.

Water Management Technology

diagram-3

20,000ltr commercial grade, pressurised underground pontoon water tank.

Commercial grade pump system.

Tank Monitoring system.

Header tank on roof supplies all toilet cisterns with water, and laundry. This tank is topped up once a day by the main underground tank. The pump is programmed to do this once a day from solar power.

The system is designed to easily be fitted with a UV steriliser, thereby allowing the main tank to supply potable water to the home. This enables NET ZERO to be completely water self sufficient, whenever you decide.

Programmed water reticulation system for efficiently watering your landscape.

All Shower heads, and basin taps throughout have highest water efficient rating.

Dishwasher is Bosch highest water rating type.

Toilet cisterns are highest efficiency models

The Central ‘Cube’ of main bathroom and the laundry, and the stairwell wall to the first floor is clad entirely in spotted gum. This spotted gum then ‘folds’ up and over the stairwell wall to flow out across the kitchen and living room floor. Dissapearing into the floor to ceiling wall, creating a lovely natural material horizon to the tree canopies outside. This is the experience of someone entering the home for the first time and being led upstairs to the first floor.

Polished concrete floors throughout. Tiled bathrooms.

Stair treads in spotted gum. Floating stair treads have no backing. So you can see through the stairwell and airflow can pass through easily.

Landscape design

Planned by Simon Ellis Landscapes the garden beds incorporate established four meter trees such as Chinese Elm and Crepe Myrtle. The front garden has a series of tall snow gums that work with the geometry of the homes, to subtly reference the work of Sidney Nolan, who lived in Parkville throughout WWII. The modernist strict geometry of the façade, gently hints at the boxy head shapes of Nolan’s bushrangers. Much thought and rigour has gone into the development of the NET ZERO landscapes.
